Leaders vs Managers…Old Controversy, New Prospectives

Scholars continue to debate the true origin of leadership qualities and the comparison of leaders to managers. While you may believe many individuals are born with the ability to lead, others argue that people can learn to lead. The truth, however, may lie somewhere in the middle. Born or bred, leaders must not only successfully manage the day-to-day operations of their departments but they must also determine the long-term goals of the agency and enlist the whole-hearted cooperation of their subordinates to accomplish these goals. Plan now to join this debate with the review of current thoughts on this topic.

The Cedar Valley Learning Network has monthly meetings with a general focus – the door is wide open to whatever topic is relevant to today’s organizations. Representatives from all types of organizations are welcome to attend.

There are several ways for you to become involved in the networks – by attending, by sharing your area of expertise with the group, by encouraging others to join you in the network meetings. The topics are driven by the needs of the attendees. The topics will vary from such soft topics as How to Drive Fear from the Organization to a more tactical slant, such as the sharing of a Business Plan template.
