Event description

Description

The Eastern Iowa IIBA Chapter is excited to host the first professional development day in the area specifically geared toward business analysts. The Eastern Iowa chapter has partnered with ASPE Training for this year's conference! This will be a fantastic learning opportunity for you to expand your skills set, learn about the latest industry trends, and network with your colleagues. You will also be eligible to claim up to 6 CDUs and PDUs for attending. We are happy to be able to bring this value-packed developmental event to the greater Eastern Iowa area.

The BA role has become more prominent, and the ever-changing requirements and opinions of what a business analyst is has importance in the success of major projects. Enterprises depend on business analysts to propel products and projects while connecting team members. This event focuses on the future of the business analyst role, while giving educational advancement as well.

The theme of the Cedar Rapids BADD is B.A. Hero! Throughout the day attendees will have the opportunity to participate in 4 different tracks including:

Agile - Learn more about methods and practices for creating solutions that evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams.

Practitioner - Providing the latest tools, techniques, and applicable skills that you can begin using the next day.

BA Trends - What's new and current? What's coming and how do we prepare? Get ready for what's around the corner as a Business Analyst professional.

Professional Skills - Become the hero you were born to be! Learn how to take your team, your company, and yourself to the next level, in and out of the Business Analyst role.

Cedar Rapids BADD is a technical conference for business analysts, project managers, IT managers, and anyone else, whether expert or beginner, involved in technology.

STAYED TUNED AS WE UPDATE OUR PROGRAM!

Morning Keynote: Sinikka Waugh - The Healthy Team Hero

As BA’s, we’re not always in control of who is “on” the team – whether it’s a project team, a peer group, or a stakeholder team. We’re often not the team “lead”, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help lead and influence the team to a healthy dynamic. How many of us, as facilitators, have wanted our participants to be “helpful participants” so we can facilitate the meeting to success? In the same way, we can be helpful team members and help influence those around us to adopt the characteristics of a high-performing, psychologically safe, effective team, regardless of which seat in the team we occupy.

Sinikka will share five characteristics of a healthy and high-performing team, and explore specific ways we can influence our teams to good health. Practical and tactical as ever, with real-life examples and tools you can use, this session will offer insights to help you ensure your team has the five characteristics of a healthy and high-performing team: a common goal, a healthy level of self-awareness, a reality-based set of mutual expectations, an effective standard of communication, and at least a dose of unconditional positive regard. Looking at each of these individually, as well as in the context of a reusable tool, Sinikka will walk through an approach to team health, from any seat, and even address some of the most common “yeah, but…” responses. Regardless of how much or how little time you have with your team, and how much or how little authority you have over the team itself, this approach will help you positively influence your team to greatness.

Afternoon Keynote: Lisa Schaefer - Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us

Contrary to the carrot-and-stick approach is the undeniable evidence that intrinsic, internal motivators are far more effective in improving individual and group performance. Participants will discuss, debate, problem-solve and actively mind-map their way to a customized, concrete plan that promotes autonomy, mastery, and a sense of purpose - the three elements that can transform their people and their organizations. This session is an opportunity for leaders to deconstruct Daniel Pink's packaging of the science behind motivation.

The 4 Superpowers of an Agile Mindset
Paulie Skaja - Agile Track

Agile is not an IT methodology. Agile is a set of values and principles that can apply to teams across industries and even to your everyday life. You’re probably making decisions every day based on agile principles and didn’t even know it. Join us for this eye-opening opportunity to learn more about the "The 4 Superpowers of an Agile Mindset” and discover ways you could introduce some of these ideas into your teams to help make their experience (and yours) even better. This interactive session introduces the Agile Manifesto and speaks to the superpowers these values afford teams when applied to their practices. Agile principles are sprinkled into the conversation to offer ideas for practical incorporation regardless of the project methodology in use.
