Event Details

 The Clinical Toxicology: A Standardized Patient-Oriented Approach is intended to refresh the basic principles in clinical toxicology and introduce a standardized patient-oriented approach to addressing the poisoned/overdosed patient. This course will utilize the latest evidence in practice based on the clinical literature and protocols from the poison control centers. The program is not intended to make the participants experts but to provide them with key practical information to help them act as first responders and to work collaboratively with ER physicians and poison control centers to address the needs of a poisoned/overdosed patient.

Course Objectives

  • Recognize basic principles of toxicology and implications for practicing healthcare professionals

  • Describe strategies for the prevention of poisoning/overdose

  • Identify key strategies for the treatment of poisoning/overdose

  • Discuss the functions of poison control center and implications of having a poison control center

  • Apply a standardized patient-assessment approach for the treatment of a poisoned/overdosed patient

Continuing Education Credit

You need to view the entire program to receive credit. To receive credit, you will need to receive 75 percent on the quiz and case study at the end of each module. Upon successful completion of all modules, and completion of the evaluation, a certificate will be available for you to print. You will have three attempts to complete each quiz.

 In support of improving patient care, Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

 

Pharmacy Credit

Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education (HSCE) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  This enduring material, Clinical Toxicology: A Standardized Patient-Oriented Approach is assigned Universal Activity Number (UAN)# 0839-0000-17-056-H04-P and accredited for 10 hour(s) for completion of all CE sessions.  Term of approval is from this date on August 1, 2017 until August 1, 2020.  The Clinical Toxicology: A Standardized Patient-Oriented Approachis a knowledge-based CE activity.

Cancellations and Refunds

Registrations must be canceled in writing or via email. No refunds after 30 days from the date of registration. In all other cases, a refund of registrations fees will be made less a $25 administrative fee.
