Welcome to CED 707: Health Sciences Distance Educator

Description:  This six-lesson online reflective continuing education program will provide individuals who are interested in teaching health science students or other distance students or are currently teaching health sciences or other distance students with an extensive opportunity to develop, further develop or design a successful distance learning experience. The six-lessons will address general distance education issues such as starting a course, instructional methodology, pedagogy, promoting interactions and building a learning community, use of technology, continuous quality improvement, available resources, best practices in distance education and effective on-line discussion. For each of the lessons, specifics related to the health sciences student will be emphasized.

All the lessons will provide practical experience based on 15 years of distance education by the facilitator.  Participants will be required to complete assignments for each lesson,  Participants are encouraged to also author their course in their Learning Management System and if possible, to provide guest access to the facilitator to provide input. 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Discuss and implement key aspects/best practices involved in pre-, during and post- offering of a distance course.
  • Discuss and implement effective pedagogy, instructional methodology, and assessment in a distance course.
  • Identify and incorporate effective strategies to enhance student interactions in a distance course
  • Identify and incorporate effective strategies to promote building a learning community in a distance course.
  • Identify and incorporate effective strategies for implementing and assessing on-line discussions
  • Apply the above to a current or future online course
  • Discuss and implement on-line strategies specific for health sciences students including professionalism, meeting educational outcomes, parity between campus and distance student, effective instructional methodologies, active learning strategies, interaction strategies and assessment techniques and clinical relevance.


Logistics:  All lessons will be taught using Creighton University's learning management system (LMS), BlueLine.

  • To complete the program, the participant has to successfully view and reflect on all the lessons by completing practical assignments. 
  • As a reflective CE program, the facilitator will be available to answer any e-mails within 24-48 hours during Monday - Friday.

Cancellations & Refunds
