Event description

Description

The tour will start with: the development pattern over time - what areas were first settled and why, what building types/architectural styles were used over time and why, history of flooding in the Stockade and how it was dealt with historically (this might be difficult or controversial, let's discuss). Touch on the settlement pattern and how it was impacted by flooding (i.e. the houses on N Ferry, North, Ingersoll, etc. were more recently built than other parts of the Stockade.

We will then move into: A recap of recent catastrophic floods (2011), the NY Rising project, the elevation of 4 Washington Ave and its controversy and challenge for the Historic District Commission to review, and followed by FEMA funds obtained in partnership with NYSGOSR, effort began in 2015, and discussion of the launch of the project.

If you need dinner after, check out one of the many old favorites or new restaurants!
