NCTE and IRA authors will work with principals through a full day of professional development in Critical Literacy across Disciplines. The new standards are complex, yet the challenges of differentiation persist. Supporting teachers in literacy in the Common Core era is essential to student growth and success in all content areas. Learn how leading with a set of signature practices will make collaboration around student achievement of the Common Core simpler.

Eileen Murphy is the author of “360 Degrees of Text” (NCTE, 2011), a book on close reading and powerful writing, the skills featured in the Common Core State Standards. She was the founding English Department Chair at Walter Payton College Prep, one of the country’s highest performing high schools, and a district leader in Chicago Public Schools. As the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for over 100 of Chicago’s highest performing schools, she became passionate about the role technology could play in education in the 21st century. She is the Founder & CEO of ThinkCERCA.com.
Doug Buehl is a teacher of 33 years, instructing in the Madison Metropolitan School District of Madison, Wisconsin. He wrote two national bestsellers, “Classroom Strategies for Interactive Learning”, (3rd Edition, 2009) and “Developing Readers in the Academic Disciplines” (2011); both were published by the International Reading Association. He currently teaches adolescent literacy courses at Edgewood College in Madison.
Katherine McKnight is a nationally recognized expert in adolescent literacy, inclusive classrooms, Common Core State Standards, and integrating technology in the 21st century classroom. She began her career in education as a high school teacher in Chicago over 20 years ago. Katie has published seven books that support teaching and learning strategies that engage all learners in reading and writing for the 21st century
