Event description

Managing Children who are D/HH who use Spoken Language in the Mainstream and Addressing the Needs of Children who are D/HH Speaking more than One Language

Register Now - Professional Prices go from $100 to $125 on February 1st!

This course will address two current topics: supporting children who are D/HH and use listening and spoken language in the mainstream and addressing the needs of children who are D/HH with more than one language in the home. Being low incidence, hearing loss is a disability not routinely seen on an SLP’s caseload. There may be one or two students in the course of a career, and each could have drastically different needs. Several factors affect a student’s access, and later success, in the classroom. Audiological factors and the current climate for students with hearing loss will be discussed. From the viewpoints of an audiologist and a teacher of the deaf, strategies for success will be described for immediate application.

The second part of this course will allow professionals, interventionists, families and others to facilitate acquisition of spoken language for multilingual children who are D/HH. Participants will learn the tools to characterize bilingual D/HH learners, develop appropriate spoken language targets and gain knowledge about current teaching and assessment tools.
