Event description

Description

Join the California Chapter of American Dance Therapy Association (CCADTA) for our first full-day event in Long Beach, CA!

We will be hosting two riveting presentations which include a movement-based lecture by Erin Scott-Haines MA, M-RAS, CRP, BC-DMT, LPCC on Moving Through The 12 Steps: Embodying Recovery Via Dance/Movement Therapy. "Spiritus contra spiritum" were Carl Jung's words to the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill Wilson, in a letter agreeing that a spiritual experience is essential to counter the problem of alcoholism, or addiction to spirits. In this workshop we will discuss analytical psychology, and the role of spirituality in the treatment of substance and process addictive/compulsive disorders. Participants will embody 12-step philosophy as it applies to a multitude of diagnosis and will be given practical tools for application in various settings. Movers will explore personal and collective unconscious as the shadow quests for wholeness, resolving to awaken the spirit within.

In addition, our CCADTA Professional and Development Fund recipient, Lora Wilson-Mau MA, BC-DMT will be presenting on How to Fuel the Growth of Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) In Exponential Ways Through Social Networking. In the few years that the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) has utilized social media for public relations and advocacy purposes, both ADTA membership and the general public’s awareness of DMT have already increased markedly. Inherent within the social networking paradigm is the essential role of relationship and reciprocity. These tenets encourage a cross-promotion, not only of dance/movement therapists by dance/movement therapists but of all creative arts therapists by all creative arts therapists. Fully maximizing the growth potential for the field of DMT demands a shift from a twentieth century mindset of isolationism to the social media inspired, twenty first century paradigm of collaboration and mutual support among all creative arts therapists. Fully committing to this paradigm will produce greater awareness of DMT in the general public, a deeper understanding of DMT by allied professionals, an increased consumer demand for our services, a more diverse pool of dance/movement therapists, and a visibility worthy of a profession beginning its second half century.
