C&C: It’s not too early! LGBTQ+ Advocacy in Elementary Schools
Event Information
About this Event
This month’s Coffee and Conversations provides an opportunity for elementary educators, and those who support them, to learn about creating affirming classrooms for all K-5 students. Bex Mui, she/her, our November C&C guest, is returning to share more detailed information about LGBTQ+ advocacy with our youngest students.
The conversation will address some of the following questions:
- Why begin LGBTQ+ advocacy in elementary school?
- How do LGBTQ+ advocacy and AB/AR teaching overlap? How can this be done in an intersectional way that centers LGBTQ+ Black students and other LGBTQ+ students of color?
- What does advocating for LGBTQ+ people (students, families, community members) look like in the K-5 setting?
- What resources are available?
While Bex will share resources and anecdotes, we will reserve a good portion of this session to answer questions, and provide participants with space to support one another in breakout groups. Whether you are an educator who identifies as LGBTQ+, a supportive allied educator with experience engaging young students in these conversations, or someone who wants support in starting this work, we welcome you to join us and bring your insights and questions!
We hope you will join us on February 24th!
