Panelist: Jeff Grant
With over 15 years experience as an innovation practitioner, Jeff Grant transforms user insight, iterative prototyping, and technology transfer into market demand. As Director of Product Innovation at InVue, he is responsible for creating "tough security made easy" innovations for the world's foremost retailers, enabling them to "sell more and lose less."
From designing satellite hardware for NASA, to inventing toy concepts at IDEO, to transforming the customer experience at Bank of America, Jeff's interdisciplinary nature has always found him at the intersection of inspiring and synthesizing the efforts of inventors, designers, marketers, engineers, researchers, builders, and storytellers.
Panelist: Dr. Rita Smith
Dr. Rita Smith is Executive Director of the Innovation Institute, a program of the McColl Center for Visual Art that grows global creative leadership capacity through transformative, artist-led learning.
Prior to joining the Innovation Institute, Rita served for over nine years as the Chief Learning Officer for Ingersoll Rand, a $14 billion global, diversified industrial company. She has over 30 years of progressive leadership roles in the learning and development field and has led learning functions in a variety of Fortune 500 companies; including the travel, financial services, and high tech manufacturing industries.
Panelist: Charles Thomas
Charles Thomas, an artist, educator, and entrepreneur, is the Executive Director of Queen City Forward (QCF). As a social innovation accelerator, QCF’s mission is to “unleash the potential of high-growth, high impact social entrepreneurs in Charlotte to create sustained economic and social impact that spurs economic development, improves the lives of citizens, and drives a new model of sustainable growth.”
Prior to leading Queen City Forward, Charles served as the Director of Education for The Light Factory Contemporary Museum of Photography and Film. During his tenure, he expanded the Museum’s community outreach program, increasing impact and earned revenue. Charles recently co-published a book of photography and stories with author Valaida Fullwood called GIVING BACK: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists.
Moderator: David Phillips
David is an Innovation Provocateur who specializes in helping organizations find non-obvious solutions to complex problems by unleashing the ideas and imagination of their people. As a consultant, speaker, and facilitator, David pushes people to question their assumptions and stretch their thinking in order to see what's often "hidden in plain sight."
Before forming Faster Glass Consulting in 2010, David developed and led programs at Bank of America focused on integrating the principles of innovation into a Six Sigma culture. He designed and conducted over 100 Solution Design workshops across the company and served as a subject matter expert for China Construction Bank as they built their product innovation lab.
