Mariko S. Carpenter is the Vice President, Strategic Community Alliances at Nielsen, a leading authority on consumer data. In this role, Mariko serves as a thought leader on Asian American consumers, sharing invaluable insights to help brands, marketers and community leaders understand the impact and influence of Asian Americans in this country. Mariko brings to light the narrative hidden within the massive volume of data available in our increasingly multicultural, ever-changing digital world.

Prior to joining Nielsen, Mariko was the Consumer Marketing lead at Condé Nast, responsible for driving consumer revenue for three iconic brands: GQ, Bon Appétit and Golf Digest. She holds a BA in Asian Studies and French from Vassar College and MS in Marketing from New York University.

 

Kelly Hu

Actress, Voice Actress, & Model

 

Kelly Hu recurs on the CW hit series, Arrow, as China White. She also recurred as Pearl on the hit series Vampire Diaries and as Laura Hill on the hit series Hawaii 5-0. She long voiced the character Stacy on the animated series, Phineas and Ferb and can currently be heard voicing the character of Karai on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Kelly starred with the A-list cast of X2: X-Men United, the sequel to the blockbuster sci-fi tale X-Men. Playing the role of the villainess Yuriko Oyama a.k.a. Lady Deathstrike, Hu gets to demonstrate her mutant powers in an extraordinary fight scene with Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman.

Born in Honolulu of Chinese, Hawaiian, and English ancestry, Kelly Hu always aspired be an actress. Determined to begin her career, Kelly catapulted into the spotlight in 1985 when she was crowned Miss Teen USA becoming the first Asian American to win the title. She was later crowned Miss Hawaii USA on her way to becoming a finalist in the Miss USA Pageant. Her exposure in the teen pageant led to modeling assignments and her first acting job, a guest star role on the television series Growing Pains. She would soon begin appearing in feature films, including the action film CRADLE TO THE GRAVE with Jet Li and DMX. Other feature film credits would include Universal Pictures' SCORPION KING, directed by Chuck Russell, THE DOORS, directed by Oliver Stone and NO WAY BACK, opposite Russell Crowe.

Additionally, Hu was seen on the hit series CSI: NY, and starred in the CBS action drama Martial Law,which received a TV Guide award for Best New Drama Series, and in Nash Bridges with Don Johnson and Cheech Marin. 

Kelly is a black belt in Karate, a certified SCUBA diver and completed the Honolulu Marathon in 2006 to raise money for a charity she jumpstarted called Reef Check Hawaii. Kelly rescued her dog ‘Mushu’ from the Much Love Animal Rescue and continues to volunteer as a foster for them. She also serves as Ambassador for Best Buddies, a charity helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and has hosted an annual poker tournament for Best Buddies California for the past six years.

Kelly has worked with CAUSE, alongside George Takei, to create an “Embrace Your Power" PSA, which encouraged viewers to use the power of their vote.

Guests must be 21 older by the day of the event.

Valet parking is available for $15. Nearby parking lots are also available at varying rates.

Is there a dress code?

Please come dressed in business/business casual.

What should I bring?

Feel free to bring business cards for the networking portion of the event.
