The CAUSE Leadership Academy Graduation celebrates the 2017 Leadership Academy class’ completion of the program. Join elected officials, community leaders, local press, and families to congratulate the leaders of tomorrow!

Congresswoman

27th Congressional District of California

Congressmember Judy Chu was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in July 2009. She represents the 27th Congressional District, which includes Pasadena and the west San Gabriel Valley of Southern California.

Congressmember Chu currently serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over legislation pertaining to taxes, revenues, Social Security, and Medicare. In that Committee, Congressmember Chu is a member of the Subcommitees on Health and Human Resources, giving her oversight over healthcare reform and crucial safety net programs.

She also serves on the House Small Business Committee, which has oversight of the Small Business Administration, and is a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access.

Chu was first elected to the Board of Education for Garvey School District in 1985. From there, she was elected to the Monterey Park City Council, where she served as Mayor three times. She then was elected to the State Assembly and then California’s elected tax board, known as the State Board of Equalization. In 2009, she became the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress in history.

Jack Song is a marketing and public affairs strategist for both corporate and political clients. Song has designed and executed several integrated marketing campaigns for over 100 commercial and independent feature films, real estate development projects, and consumer tech companies. He is a proud graduate of the CAUSE Leadership Academy in 2001 and CAUSE program coordinator in 2003.

Currently, Jack leads the marketing and communications efforts at LimeBike, a leading bikeshare company funded by Silicon Valley’s top VC firm, Andreessen Horowitz.

Jack was also the deputy political director for the California Democratic Party in 2006 and was later appointed as deputy press secretary for San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera, where Jack led the public relations campaigns for several high-profile legal cases, including the fight for marriage equality.

Jack received his BA in Political Science and Asian American Studies from University of California at Berkeley and MBA from Haas School of Business, with an emphasis on brand management. He is a board member of API Wellness Center, a non-profit health clinic, and an active member of the California Democratic Party. He currently resides in San Francisco.
