A unique career (re)launch program for those seeking to find their place in the nonprofit sector.

About this Event

A unique job search and networking program for those in search of purpose-driven work in the nonprofit sector after a career break or transition. For those stuck and struggling to identify how to begin the search, with whom to connect, and where is your best fit within a NPO and the sector. The Cause After A Pause Cohort provides a deep dive into the Greater Boston nonprofit job market with an emphasis upon recognizing the best role given your skills and interests, making new strategic professional connections, following funding trends, and identifying strong fiscal NPO management that indicate hiring opportunities. Improve and update your personal branding tools, gain confidence, and expand your networks. Step out from behind your computer and become a member of a community of career (re)launchers with a shared commitment to purpose-driven work.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • Identifying where your interests and skills best fit within a nonprofit's organizational structure
  • Engaging in strategic volunteer opportunities, specific projects as well as board service
  • How to evaluate the health of an organization's finances and management when considering volunteer service or employment
  • Tailoring your resume and letters of interest for specific job opportunities
  • Effectively identifying and communicating your passions, talent and value add
  • Networking with purpose within the Greater Boston nonprofit arena

Program components include:

  • 3 two-hour in-person facilitated group sessions
  • 1 60-minute 1:1 personalized strategy session with group leader Stephanie Lawrence ($100 value)
  • 1 guided group field trip to networking event with a follow-up debriefing session (applicable attendance fees not included)
  • 4 weekly curated calendars of Greater Boston network/learn events
  • Membership in private Facebook group to facilitate information sharing and mutual support within the cohort
  • 2 guest mentor speakers:
  1. Dana Hagenbuch, founder & principal of Dana Hagenbuch Search. Dana has than 20 years of experience in executive search and in-house talent roles for nonprofits and mission-driven organizations.
  2. Danielle Piskadlo, Executive Director of Budget Buddies, an expanding Greater Boston NPO that promotes financial literacy and confidence among low-income women. Danielle spent 10 years at Accion, a global nonprofit, and served on the Budget Buddies Boston Advisory Group before becoming ED in 2019.

Dates: 10am-noon on alternating Mondays 1/27, 2/10, 2/24

Instructor: Stephanie Wolk Lawrence, MPA

By creating a strategic plan that included project-based volunteer experience, service learning, continuing education classes and career networking, Stephanie Lawrence successfully relaunched herself into the nonprofit sector after spending a decade at home focused full-time on her triplets and younger daughter. Passionate about women's leadership initiatives, nonprofit capacity building and philanthropy, she provides advising services, strategies, and sector insight primarily but not limited to women looking to reenter or transition into the nonprofit arena. Stephanie is the founder and past chair of the Community Endowment of Lexington, a grantmaking fund of the Foundation for MetroWest, as well as past Executive Director of Neighbor Brigade, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit. Other employers have included Chase Manhattan Bank's Corporate Philanthropy Division, Massachusetts' Department of Social Services, and Minuteman Senior Services. She holds a B.A. from Tufts University and a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University.
