Description

The Albany Catholic Lawyers Guild and the Albany Catholic Medical Association invite you to a Catholic Professionals Conference and Mini-Retreat on June 30, 2018 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville, New York. The morning conference offers insights into timely end-of-life issues from medical and legal perspectives. The afternoon mini-retreat includes talks on spiritual healing, ending with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Confession and Mass celebrated by Bishop Edward Scharfenberger. You may attend either or both of the morning and afternoon programs. See below for the full schedule.

Morning Conference: The program, Compassionate Care at the End of Life, provides medical and legal perspectives on issues facing the elderly, those at the end of life and their caretakers. Michael Brescia. M.D., Co-Founder of Calvary Hospital in New York, will speak on compassionate care for the dying, focusing particularly on palliative care. Donald Berens, Esq., member of the NYS Task Force on Life and the Law, will address the law governing end of life decisions and assisted suicide. A panel discussion will follow that will also include Hon. Joseph Sise, Martin Cirincione, Esq. and Matthew Lynch, M.D. The panel will focus on end of life decision-making, including issues relating to competency and guardianship. Applications for NY CLE and CME accreditation are pending.

Afternoon Mini-Retreat: The afternoon offers a time of spiritual reflection. William Baaki, Esq., Friends of Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine board member, will offer a reflection on the spiritual significance of the Shrine and the North American Martyrs. Father Terry Brennan, chaplain of the Shrine and an attorney prior to entering the priesthood, will offer a reflection on finding spiritual healing as professionals and caregivers through the spirituality of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Confession will precede Mass, with Bishop Edward Scharfenberger as celebrant.

General Admission is $25. The fee for attorneys and doctors is $65 (email albanyclg@gmail.com for financial aid details).
