A Weekend on the Farm

St. Joseph's Farm is hosting a weekend on the farm for Catholic fathers and sons (preferably ages 14-18, but exceptions can be made). Today's world is confused, nearing insanity, about what it means to be a man. The answer to the masculinity crisis, however, is not a matter of technique, definition, or artificial experience. We need fathers and sons to be who they are in God's eyes, because true manhood is fatherhood, which begins in sonship. At St. Joseph's Farm you, as a father, will learn, work, and pray together as men alongside your son and other men. Coupled with solid presentations on the truth of manhood as revealed in Jesus Christ which will be applicable to you and your son, you will learn and experience traditional skills associated with a family centered homestead. The context of the weekend allows for more natural and authentic formation for your son, instead of conference-like settings or childish fieldtrips.

Schedule Overview

Friday evening begins with a fireside introduction to the farm and the simple goals of the weekend. A meatless dinner will be provided.

Fathers and sons return Saturday morning to enter into a rhythm of learning, prayer, and work. Meals - breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be from the farm as much as possible, with the main meal being the pig that will be slowly smoking all day, tended by you.

Mass on Sunday will be at the local parish, with parting remarks afterwards. After Mass, fathers and sons are encouraged to go alone to one of the many activities available in Western, NC. A printed guide will be provided.

Lodging

To keep things simple and affordable, participants will lodge off-farm. A printable guide with campsites, hotels, and bed and breakfasts will be sent.
