We typically target large customers as it is much easier to build a cost-effective solution for them. What about the long tail in which a large number of smaller customers are? Ignore them? In this session, you'll learn from Rainer Stropek, co-founder and CEO of the company that builds the award-winning SaaS solution “time cockpit” and WIndows Azure MVP, to embrace The Long Tail using SaaS wand Windows Azure.
Catching The Long Tail With SaaS + Windows Azure
“Software as a Service” (SaaS) is a software distribution model that uses the Internet to deploy, maintain and run software solutions. Applications that are built to be used by thousands of customers have the need to be configurable and customizable to a high degree. This has a strong impact on the applications’ architectures. A single code base and a limited number of deployed instances have to serve a large number of customers (=tenants) although the users’ view on the system may be very different. In this session Rainer Stropek presents challenges that software architects are typically faced with when building such configurable multi-tenancy solutions. Based on this discussion Rainer will point out important consequences of multi-tenancy on operational costs and pricing models in SaaS solutions.
Speaker: Rainer Stropek is co-founder and CEO of the company software architects and has been serving this role since 2008. At software architects Rainer and his team are developing the award-winning SaaS solution “time cockpit”. Previously, Rainer founded and led two IT consulting firms that worked in the area of developing software solutions based on the Microsoft technology stack. Rainer is recognized as an expert concerning .NET development and software architecture. He has written numerous books and articles on C#, database development, Windows Azure, WPF, and Silverlight. Additionally he regularly speaks at conferences, workshops and trainings in Europe and the US. Since 2010 he has been MVP for Windows Azure.
