About this Event

What is the Futurebound Summit?

Futurebound is a movement of entrepreneurs, investors, nonprofits and other public- and private-sector leaders coming together to fuel innovation in child development. Our next generation is depending on us—and we can’t afford to wait. The Futurebound Summit is a time to catalyze the Colorado ecosystem focused on young children by bringing everyone together.

Futurebound is partnering with Uncharted to host a four-day summit in Denver that will bring together ventures, investors, leading experts, policymakers and more for a series of events and workshops that will supercharge innovation to change the future of child development.

Catalyst Session: "Connecting Caregivers and Communities"

This session will be a collaboration among the participants to determine the accessibility and visibility of community resources (i.e. immunization clinics, library storytimes, parenting classes) that can support a ‘whole child, whole family’ ecosystem-wide approach to early childhood education. Families benefit from utilizing these resources and not only feel more connected with their community but also more confident in their role as caregivers. However, many parents and caregivers miss out on nearby services in their community simply because they don’t know such programs and resources exist, or the “seats” for those services are filled. Through brainstorming and discussion with participants, we hope to determine ways in which the Futurebound ecosystem can further connect families with their communities. We will ask participants to share their experiences reaching caregivers with the services they provide and try to gauge which resources are the most underutilized and why.

Our session will be focused on leveraging the skills, expertise and programs from a diverse network of service providers in the early childhood ecosystem including case examples from United Way’s 211 program, Aunt Bertha, and Bright by Text. Participants will craft community messages about the identified underutilized resources and upload them onto Aunt Bertha and/or the Bright by Text platform to be distributed to families (segmented based on their zip code and child’s age). This session will help navigate of the mismatch of resource availability and demand, and inform the need for new, low cost channels for communication.

We hope to connect with more organizations to discuss relevant channels to reach caregivers who continue to miss out on local services. By promoting community resources through Aunt Bertha, Bright by Text, and other innovative programs, we can modernize channels of communication for local organizations and increase transparency of their indispensable services.

By the end, participants will:

  1. Brainstorm the type of services in their communities that are underused or under-resourced;
  2. Understand that the many community organizations don’t have proper visibility so caregivers miss out on their services and programs;
  3. Recognize caregivers need awareness of and access to reliable information and community resources to help their children achieve school readiness;
  4. Learn how web apps and texting can be used to encourage families to engage in fun and easy learning activities together and build upon concepts their children are learning in school.

Agenda

  • Each session will be a combination of discussion and facilitated activities with attendees.

Presenters

Rebecca Levy is the Senior Program Manager at Bright by Three

Rebecca Levy has been a part of the Bright by Text team since February 2018. In her role as Senior Program Manager, Rebecca is responsible for managing a network of over 30 key partners; including PBS stations, United Ways, and more, to bring the Bright by Text service to parents and caregivers across the country. She enjoys building and maintaining strong partnerships that maximize impact, and provide excellent support for families with young children.

Prior to joining the Bright by Text, Rebecca worked with the Daniels Fund for six years, during which time she held high-level administrative and management positions in both the Scholarship and Communications departments. In these roles, she learned a great deal about the structure, management and guiding philosophies of non-profit organizations. Rebecca has also worked at the Denver Art Museum, where she designed and implemented educational programming targeted specifically toward families with young children.

Rebecca earned an MA in Arts Administration from the University of Denver, and a BA in Arts History from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Tara Stingley is a Program Associate at Bright by Text

Tara has been a part of the Bright by Text team since July 2019. Tara supports our partners in Colorado by helping them learn how to leverage our technology platform to expand and strengthen their communication with families and caregivers.

Prior to joining Bright by Three, Tara worked for Denver Public Schools on the Child Find team. In her role with Denver Public Schools, Tara managed a caseload, focused on collaboration within the early childhood community, and provided developmental evaluations for children birth to five. Prior to her role with DPS, Tara provided in-home services under Part C of IDEA.

Tara has an MA in Early Childhood Education, a teaching license in Early Childhood Special Education, and a BA in Integrative Physiology, all from the University of Colorado.
