Event description

Description

The UK Catalysis Hub Town meeting will be held on April 24th to discuss a potential new theme and proposal to the research councils for a new theme of the Catalysis Hub:

Catalysis for a circular economy: sustainable manufacturing

Registration for the Town meeting is free and includes lunch. The main aim of the meeting is to provide the data necessary to inform a new theme as the Hub evolves to continue to meet the Current challenges in catalysis, and the UK

The Town meeting will Aim to identify

  • current challenges in Catalysis Research relating to sustainable manufacturing and identifying those areas with Impact or national importance
  • Modes of Interaction with exciting activities within the research strategy
  • Industrial Engagement
  • Identification of potential current and future IP and a strategy for exploitation

The agenda for the meeting will include:

  • Current state of the Catalysis Research for Sustainable Manufacturing
  • An international perspective
  • An industrial Perspective
  • Discussion and Feedback
  • wrap-up and next steps

The Catalysis Hubs will continue to encompass the following features:

  • Adopt an integrated approach that draws together biology, chemistry, energy technology, materials science, and chemical/process engineering;
  • Be inclusive of the breadth of catalyst types, and therefore not limited to heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, but include as appropriate biocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and organocatalysis
  • Addresses the UK’s need for more efficient, inexpensive and environmentally friendly methods of producing chemicals (fine chemicals, bulk chemicals, and specialized materials) and fuels from a variety of feedstocks.
  • Cross-boundaries between departments, universities, and industry.

The hub or hubs will continue to be multidisciplinary multi-institutional, calling on
excellence wherever it is found and will aim to

  • Make broad contributions to fundamental advances in catalysis, AND facilitate the introduction of new catalytic systems and technologies that meet national societal and economic goals
  • Lead to improved ways to take new catalysts from bench to full-scale application
  • Address issues such as catalyst manufacture, catalyst lifetime, catalyst removal and control of catalytic processes.
  • Develop superior catalysts to reduce environmental impact
  • Consider the whole system when developing new catalysts
  • develop systems that use energy in an efficient way

Directions to the research complex can be found here, Note: there is parking available on the campus in the Bus stop car park a short walk from reception. Please do not park in front of the reception building
