Join us for a field trip to see this hidden historic gem, the Castro Adobe.
Completed in 1850 by Juan Jose Castro as the seat of the Castro family’s 8,800 acre land grant, the adobe is a fine example of a rancho hacienda and one of four remaining adobes in our county.
Badly damaged in the 1989 earthquake, the adobe is being restored by Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, in partnership with California State Parks.
You'll hear about the Castro family and tour the archives, grounds, cocina and interior of the adobe. You'll be among the first to see the Fandango Room on the second story, the site of many dances and fiestas in the Californio era.
