Event description

Description

In this full day event, independent film and web series producers will learn how to cast the talent that makes their project marketable. This full day interactive workshop comes with written documentation and the chance to hear from three experts who can help them attach name talent to their project.

Topics addressed in this full day event include:

Why the right casting determines everything from whether you can find investors to if and how your project will ever make a profit.

  1. All name talent is not created equal when it comes to your project
  2. Casting the wrong name talent will make your project completely unfundable
  3. Even short films, indie web series, and microbudget project need names to be worth producing
  4. Why distributors and buyers will sometimes offer pre-sales or minimum guarantees based on script, talent, budget, director, and producer alone.

How to determine what name talent best suits your film.

  1. Estimating the valuing of name talent from a distributor's perspective.
  2. How to calculate how much a given actor will be worth to your project in distribution
  3. How to profitably think way outside the box when it comes to picking name talent for your project
  4. How to determine how much you can afford to pay name talent to appear in your project

What you can do to make your project attractive to the name talent you want to attach

  1. What has to be in the screenplay
  2. Who has to be on your crew
  3. What has to be in the budget
  4. What they have to see in the shooting schedule
  5. What needs to be in the contract
  6. Why working with a casting director is sometimes critical and sometimes a mistake

When and how to approach and sign name talent on to your project

  1. When it makes sense to work with a name actor/producer and when it doesn't
  2. What you must have in place before you approach name talent
  3. How approaching name talent too soon can make your project impossible to make
  4. Why big names sometimes attach to projects with tiny budgets
  5. How your little webseries or microbudget project can be a very big deal for the right performer
  6. Understanding SAG/AFTRA, Indie Agreements, Bonds & Completion Bonds
  7. Dealing with agents, managers, and attorneys
  8. Why sometimes it makes sense to look outisde the union for big names
  9. Mistakes to avoid making.

This is the perfect event to attend if you are a new producer, or a producer who has never engaged name talent to work on a project before. You will gain new insight into how to profitably produce your projects, how to make your projects more profitable, and how to work with the people you admire most on projects you care deeply about.
