Breaking down Barriers and Binaries: Anthropological Adventures Beyond Academe
All are welcome! CASTAC membership is not required!
Our spring event features three anthropologists who are experts in conducting research and mentoring colleagues in applied contexts. Angela VandenBroek (Texas State University), Melissa Cefkin (Waymo), and Dawn Nafus (Intel) will share their insights about integrating anthropological approaches and concepts in industry settings. They will also discuss publishing in academe from the perspective of leading socially-informed research. Questions include:
- What is it like to work in industry? What is it like to work at your organization?
- How does anthropology or ethnography influence your approach to your work?
- How did you circulate your findings or insights beyond your organization?
- What was it like to publish in academic venues?
- What advice and next steps would you advise for graduate students and junior colleagues who wish to work outside the academy?
CASTAC is part of the General Anthropology Division (GAD) of the American Anthropological Association
