Will we be using knives or sharp tools in class?

No. We will be using small, comfortable rotary tools that run at controlled speeds up to 40,000RPM. The cutters are small and normally quite safe to use. However, there is always a possibility of cutting or scraping yourself whenever you carve wood. Tool safety is discussed early in the class.

Carving with rotary tools always generates dust. This small project generates a small amount of wood dust. We use Razaire 530 dust collectors at each work station to minimize dust exposure. If you wish you can also wear a dust mask in class.
