Description

Hoosier Environmental Council, Wildcat Guardians, and League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette present:

Carroll & Tippecanoe County CAFO Workshop

Are you or someone you know impacted by a nearby factory farm (i.e., Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation or CAFO)? Or are you simply an interested citizen who wants to learn more about CAFOs -- how they are operated, current local and state protections, and their implications for Hoosiers’ environment and quality of life?

Join the Hoosier Environmental Council, in partnership with Wildcat Guardians and the League of Women Voters of Greater Lafayette, on Saturday April 28th from 10am-2pm at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi for an educational workshop on CAFOs presented by HEC’s Senior Staff Attorney and Director of Agriculture Policy, Kim Ferraro. Learn about the impacts of CAFOs on Indiana’s environment, economy, and human health, alternatives for economic development, the role that food choice plays in ensuring a healthy environment for all, and what you can do to advance both the local and statewide movement for a more sustainable food production system!

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION INCLUDE:

• Protecting your community against the inappropriate siting of new CAFOs

• Ensuring that existing CAFOs are following the law

• Becoming a more knowledgeable and effective advocate for improved local and state protections

• Learning your legal rights under zoning, land use, environmental, and public access laws as they relate to CAFOs

• Making positive change in the current political climate and building the local and statewide movement for a more sustainable food production system
