Event description

Description

We are immersed in a rich and transformative period in America, stoked in part by women’s anger. But psychoanalytic theories have long been complicit in pathologizing women’s anger, preventing psychological exploration of the gender-born and power-born injuries that are weighing on and stretching so many individuals. As uncomfortable as anger may be, it is so often born of legitimate grievance, and its energy can serve to challenge and deconstruct the political and cultural power structures between those invested in and benefitting from the patriarchy and those not.

During the morning presentation we will define and explore Jung’s concepts of the Feminine and Masculine archetypes, as they may inform us as to how to hold the tension of opposing psychological stances around power, exploitation, and rebellion. .

During the afternoon presentation we will be exploring both the creation story of Adam and Eve and the myth of Poseidon and Medusa. We will also discuss the repression of desire, the embodiment of shame, and the dynamic of scapegoating.
