Event description

Description

This training is for caregivers, community members, paraprofessionals, professionals or anyone who works with, spends time with or interacts with individuals who have experienced trauma.

40-85% of people who help individuals who have experienced trauma will develop vicarious/secondary trauma or compassion fatigue at some point in their career. Exposure to the trauma of other individuals may lead the "helper" to develop the same or similar symptoms as the individuals they work with.

During this training, learners will develop an understanding of vicarious trauma--the causes and symptoms of vicarious trauma; learn the difference between vicarious trauma and burnout; learn the symptoms associated with vicarious trauma and develop an understanding of protective factors, resilience and personal care plans for those in the helping profession.
