Caring for the Culture: Why Beauty Matters - an evening with Makoto Fujimura at the Vancouver Art Gallery
Join us for a unique opportunity to reflect on the role of art and beauty in sustaining our culture with Makoto Fujimura—painter, author, and leader of the International Arts Movement. The evening will feature a guided dialogue with an artist who both embraces and transforms traditional Japanese painting technique known as nihonga.
Image editor Gregory Wolfe will initiate a conversation with Fujimura about his work, including its personal, community, and spiritual dimensions. A question and answer period with the assembled guests will follow. Mr. Wolfe has known Mr. Fujimura for much of his career and has published his art work and writings in Image.
The event begins with a catered rooftop reception at the Vancouver Art Gallery. During the reception, guests will also be allowed to circulate through the top two floors of the gallery for a private viewing of the collection.
The Vancouver Art gallery will be closed to the general public during this exclusive event.
