Event description
A one day symposium for Pre- and In-hospital providers who care for pediatric patients.

About this Event

A pediatric patient is both the 4 pound preemie and the 250 pound, 15 year old upcoming football star. Kids are kids, regardless of their size, and they can be a stress for health care providers. At times the emotions of clinicians providing care is complicated when family is distraught, or enraged, and law enforcement begins to ask their probing questions. How are health care professionals supposed to answer these questions within the shadows HIPAA? This question will be discussed along with some best practices to eliminate medication errors and care for the fragile preemie. When caring for a child you may have two patients—don’t forget about the parent.

The day’s feature event asks the question, “Healthcare and Law Enforcement: Is There A Conflict?” This panel discussion will examine best practices for the integration of Pre- and In-hospital healthcare when law enforcement must become involved. How many times have you heard a parent ask, “Why are the cops here?” A parent that is already stressed because of a sick or injured child, and now they think that are in trouble, will often shut up and mentally shut down making care for their child more difficult. How can issues such as this be avoided—or can they? Have your questions ready, bring your examples of past experiences, and let the panel experts make Caring for the Child that much easier.
