About the presentation
Panelists from several law firms and companies will discuss the requirements to become a patent agent, their daily work schedules, their career transitions into patent law, the relative compensation to science-track careers, and the availability of patent agent positions within the San Diego legal community.
David Wallace, is Sr. Director of IP at Biosplice Therapeutics where he manages a portfolio of 170+ pending U.S. and foreign applications. He is also founder of Wallace Scientific Consulting. Prior to becoming a patent agent, he spent 15 years as a medicinal chemist at various biotech companies.
Deborah Smith is an Associate and former Patent Agent at the law firm of Wilson Sonsini where she drafts and prosecutes patents. Prior to her legal career, she was a medicinal chemist at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development in San Diego.
Alice Lee-Dutra, Ph.D. is a Senior Patent Agent at the law firm of Foley and Lardner where she drafts and prosecutes patents. Prior to this, she was a patent agent and scientific advisor for Wilson Sonsini. She worked more than 10 years as a medicinal chemist with Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development in San Diego.
