Description

This 2-hour workshop developed by Earth Day Coalition (your local Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Coalition) will provide a toolbox of resources on careers within the alternative fuels industry including; websites, videos, powerpoint presentations, inquiry and hands-on lessons connected to careers, and student scholarship opportunities. The information provided will tie in with state education standards for easier adoption into the classroom. The first 20 participants to sign up will receive a hydrogen fuel-cell model car for their classroom.*

Our guest speaker Amanda McAlpin, the Clean Cities Workforce Development Program Coordinator for Argonne National Laboratory, will present on workforce projections in the alternative fuels industry. Amanda McAlpin serves as the Clean Cities University Workforce Development Program Coordinator at Argonne National Laboratory, where she assists in providing clean transportation knowledge and experience to university students to prepare them for roles in the energy and transportation industry. She has also been involved as a participant and organizer for DOE's Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (AVTC) for the past decade. The AVTC program trains university students to be the next leaders in energy efficient vehicle technologies, as well as educate the public and K-12 students about the benefits of efficient transportation. Before her role at Argonne, she was a Communications Specialist at New West Technologies in Washington, DC, with her sole client being the U.S. Energy Department's Office of Vehicle Technologies. There she led a team that provided research and communication expertise, as well as educational outreach, in the area of energy and transportation for the federal government. Ms. McAlpin holds a B.A. in Communication from Mississippi State University.
