Event description
Marquette University's Second Annual Career Diversity Symposium

About this Event

On Thursday, November 14, the Center for the Advancement of the Humanities and the Graduate School will co-sponsor Marquette’s second annual career diversity symposium entitled Career Diversity and the Public Humanist. We are excited to announce a wonderful lineup of national experts leading career diversity projects and public humanities programming for this day long event.

• Emily Swafford, Director of Academic and Professional Affairs at the American Historical Association and Dylan Ruediger, Coordinator of Career Diversity for Historians and Institutional Research at the American Historical Association, will share the most recent data and lessons from the AHA’s Career Diversity for Historians Initiative and will offer insights about career outcomes for PhD students.

• Jenna Lay, Director of Graduate Studies in the English Department at Lehigh University will detail ways her program developed career diversity programming for graduate students at her university, and will share key lessons and successes from Lehigh’s project.

• The symposium will also feature Ryan McBride, Marquette PhD in Philosophy 2005, who directs the Mellon Graduate Program in Community Engaged Scholarship at Tulane University. Ryan will discuss his post-PhD career experiences with a special focus on how to develop community engaged scholarship.

• We will conclude the day with a late-afternoon cocktail reception led by Dan Bergen, Executive Director of Marquette’s Office of Community Engagement, and Amanda Seligman, Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, for a conversation about publicly engaged projects in the city of Milwaukee.
