The New Mexico AMA and the Anderson School of Management are bringing a unique opportunity to students to get a personal and close-up look inside different types of marketing careers from our panel of marketing pros.

Attendees will hear from the panel on best practices for jump-starting and advancing their careers and more. They also will have an opportunity to ask the panel their own questions and network. \

You will leave having learned about:

  1. Different types of careers in marketing.

  2. What employers want, how to stand out, and how to market yourself.

  3. Making career connections with tips for networking, personal branding, and relationship building.

About the Panelists:

Scott Abbate

Eve Wakeland

Eve knows how to take care of business with a smile. She is known for her hard-charging optimism and positive approach to difficult challenges.

Prior to joining Esparza, she traversed the hills of San Francisco, solving problems and bringing smiles to her clients’ faces. Her experience includes leadership positions at Traction and Havas. She has worked with major brands, including Lenovo, Apple, Neutrogena and Genentech.

Eve enjoys spending time exploring New Mexico with her husband and their two pups, as well as practicing yoga and listening to German house music on road trips.

Ben Dowell
Business Rental Sales Director
Enterprise

Ben Dowell began his career at Enterprise in Memphis, Tennessee in the Summer of 2006. He was promoted from Branch Manager to Business Rental Sales Executive in early 2009 and proceeded to split his time equally between acting as an Account Executive and an Account Manager over the next three years. He was promoted again in the Fall of 2012 to Strategic Account Manager in Dallas, Texas after expanding his client base by more than 50%.

Over the next 3 ½ years he implemented $14M in newly contracted business and grew his territory by 63% from $38M to over $60M. This led to Ben’s promotion and relocation to Birmingham, Alabama as an Area Sales Manager in February 2016. In this role, he was responsible for the hiring, development, and management of nine Sales Executives across Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida. His team’s annual sales grew from $6M to over $11M, which was the most revenue for the South Central Region of the U.S. at that time.

He was promoted to his current role as Director of Sales based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico in August 2018. In addition to overseeing the marketing strategy for Group 34 and the Business Rental Department as a whole, Ben was an active proponent of improving our reporting processes with the EH Insight development team.

Over the past 20+ years, Erika Hecht has been a top performer in building revenue generating marketing teams, initiatives, strategies, and programs for companies looking to gain market share and penetrate new markets. Erika is currently the founder and principal consultant at Market Ascent, a growth marketing consulting firm that develops and implements marketing plans and programs using a proprietary methodology that leverages marketing accelerators that are commonly overlooked, siloed, or not fully realized for their potential.

Erika’s past experience includes consulting full-time for IBM; serving as vice president of marketing and worldwide business development at a regionally accredited online university; working in senior roles at award-winning marketing agencies; and serving in senior marketing roles at SPSS, a leader in predictive analytics (now part of IBM). Passionate about education, Erika is a life-long learner and volunteers for NMAMA as programming director.
