Will Guzzardi is currently serving his first term as State Representative for Illinois’ 39th district. In 2012, at the young age of 24, he ran for the Illinois House of Representatives and narrowly lost to the "machine-backed" incumbent. Two years later, he would unseat the incumbent by a 20% margin on a grassroots campaign centered around social and economic justice. Join the IOP for a discussion on Rep. Guzzardi’s path from college graduate to public service and his work as a State Representative.
Originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Guzzardi attended Brown University, where he graduated with a degree in comparative literature, and has lived in Logan Square ever since. He is passionate about education, and has taught after school programs and tutored school children for 10 years. Since joining the Illinois General Assembly in January of 2015, Rep. Guzzardi has introduced and sponsored legislation to reform the juvenile justice system, improve standardized testing, enhance conditions for Illinois workers, and strengthen LGBTQ rights.
