Description

What I Wish Someone Told Me Earlier In My Career

2018 is almost over and a new year means new resolutions. Do you feel like there were things you wanted to do but didn't get a chance to accomplish? Are you coming to the realization that being smart and working hard isn't helping you get that next project or promotion or role you want?

You're not alone.

Our minority panelists felt the same way before they landed jobs at Google, Optimizely and RaisedReal.

Minorities are statistically proven to self-select out of opportunities. We're a tribe of people that want to share our hard lessons and failures so that you don't have to learn the hard way. We want to help you navigate the world of office politics to best position yourself to accomplish your professional goals.

Confidence, Networking, Visibility, Mentorship - these are all buzzwords that we're told we need to 'move up.' Join for an intimate discussion as our panelists as they share personal, vulnerable examples of times where they have chosen to put themselves in uncomfortable positions to obtain a certain goal.

You'll learn:
- How to build the confidence to have the difficult discussions
- How companies really think about promoting teams from Hiring managers
- How to pull together a career plan and share it with your manager and mentors to get where you want to go

Limited to 50 spots only to allow for a more intimate conversation.

Speakers:

Phillip Chen | Sr. Enterprise Marketing Manager, Optimizely

How do we create spaces within society that include all and exclude none? How do we bring people together to achieve more as a collective than as individuals? As we learn more about the inequalities underrepresented minorities face in and out of the workplace, how do we learn to advocate for ourselves and others? Phillip has led LGBTQ+ initiatives within business organizations for the past 7 years and is continuously striving to answer these questions. Phillip's journey of finding acceptance has been full of hurt, loneliness and even shame, but it has also brought him a deep sense of pride, connection, understanding, and compassion. Phillip loves hugs, eating with friends, and laughing out loud.
