Care Package Cinema: a micro-film festival series

In 2020, Invertigo Dance Theatre launched the Digital Dance Care Packages which allowed people to gift a one of a kind dance solo to a loved one. Each one was uniquely made by an Invertigo dancer and was inspired by the prompt given by the sender. Since then we have made over 90 beautiful Digital Dance Care Packages! This micro-film festival series will feature these works, the process, and the sender and artist.

What is Care Package Cinema: A micro-film festival series? 

Our final night of Care Package Cinema Micro-film Festival is this coming Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00 PM (PST). For the past year, Invertigo Dance Theatre has received prompts from folks ordering a Digital Dance Care Package for a loved one. With their blessing, we are screening some of these incredible dance films for you. Come for a full hour of short dance films created in collaboration with community, Invertigo Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director, Laura Karlin and its dance artists.

Our last  three events brought together the artists and community members responsible for the films. The evenings are filled with love, appreciation, and a reflection of our human connection through the arts. Thank you to all who've attended.

Night 4: Holiday Special (Weds, 10 March)

It's Christmas in July in March! Night four of our dance films features trickery, presents, a Fathers Day dance-allegory on a comfy couch, cryptocurrency confusion, mischievous upside down feels, spirals – AND – if you’re into time travel, let us take you back to the time when bowler hats and scratchy film reels were all the rage!

Night 1: Family Story (Weds, 17 Feb)

Who could make a dance prompted by the words "Shakespeare, Wizards, and Sushi"? Invertigo can! Welcome to our first night of dance films with the theme of Family Story. Journey with us as we jump into personal tales and messages featuring a Black Lives Matter dance of love and resilience, the spirit of the feminine divine, intergenerational connections, and the power of 40.

Night 2: On Location (Weds, 24 Feb)

Run into the wilderness with us! Whether it be the beach, our beautiful LA concrete jungle, voluptuous gardens in Pasadena, or into the woods come and walk with us! Night two will honor the outdoors and feature powerful bodies in the elements.

Night 3: Arthouse (Weds, 3 March)

BOOM! SPLAT! Our third night of dance films features the voice of Charlie Chaplin, original poetry, a mirror silhouette dance, a playful and tender moment with a shelf, and more transformative pieces that will uplift you and your dusty paintbrush. Join us and we promise you a night of rich artistic experiences.
