Event description
Care of Self – What does ‘self-care’ mean in times of uncertainty, anxiety, and isolation?

About this Event

Headstrong Counselling is proud to have our first Eventbrite in collaboration with Manu Bazzano. Headstrong is a multi-disciplinary, multi-lingual counselling agency that provides low-cost and free therapeutic services. Part of the proceeds of this event will be for that purpose. When approaching Manu, we asked a very simple question, what is self-care in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic? This simple (and not so simple) question is the basis of today’s event.

About the Talk

Care of Self – What does ‘self-care’ mean in times of uncertainty, anxiety, and isolation? A theoretical and experiential seminar drawing on Zen, contemporary psychotherapy and radical ethics.

Care of self is an ongoing practice of mind and body aimed at nurturing our freedom and dignity as individuals yet also directly linked to ethics, to relating better to others. Much more than eating healthily, resting and avoiding stress, care of the self means greater self-awareness, as well as participation in social and political life. Those who practise care of the self will adhere to a deeper ethical code before abiding by the rules of their profession. In Zen Buddhism, we say that ‘to study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be awakened by all living things'
