Course Description:
This course is a comprehensive overview of cardiovascular and pulmonary pathologies and interventions in the geriatric population.

Objectives:

  • Identify normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems

  • Discuss the effects of pathologic aging on the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems

  • Understand common cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions and their interventions

  • Identify various measures to assess and monitor cardiovascular and pulmonary signs at rest and in response to activity

  • Describe medical and surgical management of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease and its effect on physical therapy intervention

  • Discuss appropriate tests and measures, as well as evaluation considerations when working with cardiovascular and pulmonary issues found in the geriatric population

  • Understand how to prescribe exercise for the geriatric client with
    cardiovascular and/or pulmonary conditions


Target Audience: Licensed Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists

Course Level: Intermediate

CE Credit: 6.5 Contact Hours (0.65 CEU) for PT/OT
