Description

Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity will be hosting our 4th Cardboard City Challenge in 2019! Teams spend a night in cardboard constructed shacks, learning more about affordable housing issues, poverty issues in their community, and how Habitat plays a role in helping families to have a safe place to call home. This event is open to youth ages, 13-18. Each team must have at least 2 members. We will provide the materials to construct your shack.

The event starts at 5PM and ends at 7AM the following morning.

  • We do an orientation on Habitat for Humanity

  • Shack building

  • Tour of Habitat build projects

  • Service learning program

  • Dinner and Breakfast

  • Affordable Housing Movie

  • Poverty Simulation Online Experience

  • Service Projects

Rules for the Event:

  • Materials for shack construction include cardboard, duct tape, markers, box cutters/scissors and one sheet of poster board and are provided by Habitat.

  • No generators

  • No power tools

  • No paint (painted items should be done before the event)

  • No alcohol, drugs, or tobacco (If you violate this rule, you will immediately be asked you to leave.)

  • Teams must consist of at least 2 team members.

  • Each person will be given a list of what to bring to the event.

  • Each team MUST have at least one adult volunteer who helps during the duration of the event
