Event Details

Join us for a BioBlitz in Capitol Reef National Park! Hike and learn about local biodiversity with the help of experts in the amazing landscapes of Capitol Reef. A great opportunity to be outside while learning more about the biodiversity of Capitol Reef and to engage in hands-on science in a National Park. You will also be citizen scientists and contribute valuable data to the National Park and worldwide efforts to better understand patterns of biodiversity.

Day 1, Saturday, June 22

  • Orientation for the BioBlitz is at 9 am at the Capitol Reef Field Station. We encourage you to arrive at 8:30 am in order to get breakfast before we head out to the field, but you can also arrive throughout the day and still participate.
  • Participants will hike with a group leader to identify and observe biodiversity in the field, and finalize identifications and upload data afterwards at the field station. Most of the day will be exploring the areas surrounding the Capitol Reef Field Station.
  • Hiking will be light to moderate, but some hiking is required.
  • We encourage anyone interested in the event to come and participate on this day. Snacks, a light lunch, and dinner will be provided.
  • Itinerary for Saturday, June 22:

Day 2, Sunday, June 23

  • Day 2 will occur in more remote areas of the park and is designed for folks very comfortable in rugged terrain. It will involve hiking on rough terrain throughout the day and following data collection protocols.
  • Space is limited and RSVP is required. Details will be provided after you RSVP.
  • Attendance on the 1st day of the BioBlitz is not required to participated in the 2nd day.
