Description
Join us Saturday, August 24th for stroll through the Capitol Hill neighborhood!
MEET // your neighbors and over 8 organizations > the people working to build a better future
BE INSPIRED // hear from projects leaders, tour guides and each other
TAKE ACTION // green your lifestyle with your new knowledge and (free) swag
Come hear how vision, innovation, green technology and concepts are transforming "The Hill" to make Seattle an incredibly resilient city. The walking tour will include five stops; each site will have a project leader sharing how sustainability has been key to developments.
You'll hear of upcoming area changes, the neighborhood's best kept secrets and many sustainable ideas including:
- an urban edible garden that's open to the public
- the new ultra-green transit area and one of only few designated Eco-District's in the nation
- solar power for your home
- green building design, particularly the "world's greenest office building"
- storm water management
- how to get your own urban garden (p-patch) space
- an exciting new street revitalization project set to give Melrose St. a much needed makeover
- and of course, community building!
Tours will start promptly at 5pm, 5:30pm and 6:00pm and last approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, covering a distance of about 3 miles. A special guest guide will lead each tour and you'll be given a free swag bag at the end of your journey.
To continue celebrating sustainability, you are welcome to join the Seattle Bike-In, an outdoor celebration of sustainable transportation, community and the arts, presented by NW Film Forum, Vera Project and Sustainable Seattle. This is the location of the tour's check-in. We hope you enjoy the music, local bike vendors and merchants, and a film screening of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure a 1985 comedy classic by Tim Burton.
