Duke Ellington was one of the most prolific composers of the twentieth century, with a list of compositions numbering in the thousands. Modern jazz musicians continue to play many of his hit songs but rarely do they delve into his extended works due to the structural and orchestrational complexities that often construct these pieces. With this concert, Capital Jazz Project will perform excerpts of Ellington's great extended compositions, adapting them to fit the instrumentation and style of the musicians performing, just as Duke would for the members of his ensemble.
