To Our CCBFF Family:
Many of you may have experienced circumstances that just make you want to give up. I have been an entrepreneur (self-employed/management consultant) for 21 years. I’ve handled major projects for clients, written business plans, helped clients launch businesses and launched a few myself as well. So, I knew year five was going to be tough.
We were ahead of projections in some areas, a little behind in some and right on target in others. The CCBFF Team was braced and prepared for our 5th year. In January, the challenges started… February they kept coming… March, April, May they just kept coming… but we kept fighting. Well, today, we received some news that makes it impossible to put on the festival this year; we were informed that key sponsorship commitments would not be forthcoming.
I know this is devastating news with only a few days before we were supposed to welcome our guests. Please understand that this was not an easy decision and know that the circumstances had to be dire in order for me to come to this decision. Today someone asked me how I was doing and I responded, “What doesn’t kill you just makes you stronger” to which she replied, “But God… How strong do we need to be?” We had a great laugh… and I needed that. I had hoped that new filmmakers would find out how much CCBFF loves our filmmakers – after reviewing emails between you all and the submissions teams, I feel like I know many of you personally.
Please accept our sincere apologies for this tremendous inconvenience. If you have any questions, please let me know.
All ticket sales will be refunded by Monday, August 21st, 5:00 p.m.
Eternally optimistic,
Winston G. Williams
About the organizer
The Capital City Black Film Festival (CCBFF) presents the best in new Black independent film from the brightest minds in filmmaking. Our programming celebrates and showcases films that are written, directed or produced by African American filmmakers, films which prominently feature African American actors or films that address topics and issues relating to the Black community. CCBFF offers year-round programming for Filmmakers and film lovers alike, including screenings, networking, educational workshops and special events.
For seveb years, CCBFF has been creating valuable experiences for filmmakers. We are intentional about offering year-round programs, speakers, workshops, events and support systems to enhance creative careers, businesses and brands.
We go beyond recognizing films as official selections and providing a screening platform. We help filmmakers connect with influencers and decision-makers within the film production and distribution industry who share valuable advice on how to move their projects and careers forward.
