Event description

Description

On Friday September 20th at 10:30am, as part of the Global Climate Strike, we will gather at the Cape Cod Commission in Barnstable Village to call on the Commission to make solutions to climate change a central priority. The Commission creates the Cape Cod Regional Policy Plan (RPP), which sets growth and development policy that is binding across all 15 Cape towns. On April 1st of this year, 350 Cape Cod proposed amendments to the RPP that would make reducing carbon emissions and building resiliency to climate change a key factor in those rules. The Commission has not even brought these amendments up for debate or a vote. Commission staff explain that the Commission is required by law to balance environmental and economic issues, but this is obviously a false choice: we all know that climate change – rising seas, vanishing beaches, polluted water, violent storms – is the greatest threat to the Cape’s tourism-and-ocean-based economy. Join us to demand an open debate and vote by the Commission on the climate change amendments. This action is co-sponsored by Sierra Club Cape Cod, Citizens' Climate Lobby South Shore/Cape Cod, and Upper Cape Womens' Coalition.
