Description

About:

The Cache Creek Conservancy (Conservancy) and Yolo County Resource Conservation District (RCD) invites the public to a meeting on Wednesday, January 23, 6-7pm, at the Esparto Library meeting room, to voice their comments on the four proposed interpretive panels to be installed at the Capay Open Space Park in 2019. The regional and geographic context, natural and human history, conservation, and the role of gravel resources are the focus of four panels. The evening will begin with a brief update on Capay Open Space Park and the restoration and the sign creation through the grant received from the California Natural Resources Agency. Following the introduction, the floor will be open for attendees to provide feedback on the interpretive panels.

How to submit comments:

Copies of the panels are currently on display at the Esparto Library and the Cache Creek Nature Preserve, or can be viewed on the Conservancy’s website at https://cachecreekconservancy.org/capay-open-space.

Comments may be submitted via email to mpeterson@cachecreekconservancy.org, dropped in the comment envelope at the Esparto Library, or voiced in person at the January 23 public meeting.

The CCC and RCD encourage people to review and provide comments about the panels. This is the last comment period before the panels go into production. Installation is anticipated for summer 2019.

The Park:

The interpretive panel production is part of a larger park enhancement project funded by the California Natural Resources Agency. This three-year grant allows the RCD and Conservancy to initiate creek and grassland habitat restoration, and install new park signs and interpretive panels highlighting the history and natural landscape of the area. The County of Yolo also is a partner in this grant.

Capay Open Space Park opened in 2008. The 41-acre park site was donated to the County in 2004 by Granite Construction, which operates a nearby gravel quarry. This site is considered the northern gateway to the proposed Cache Creek Parkway, part of the County’s Cache Creek Area Plan (CCAP) under the Cache Creek Resources Management Plan (CCRMP).
