Event description

Description

Los Angeles-based artists Regina Mamou and Lara Salmon of Research for the Bermuda Triangle (RBT) discuss scent-related processes and concepts behind their collaborative practice. They became interested in olfactory art while working at the artist residency Queens Collective in Morocco (December 2018–January 2019). They will share stories about crafting their own distiller in the Old Medína of Marrakech. The workshop includes a live demonstration of this DIY distiller, which they used to produce hydrosols of non-traditional materials. RBT will discuss the performative aspect of scent for the projects they produced in Marrakech, Morocco, and Berlin, Germany, and how this intangible material continues to inform their work.

As the collaborative Research for the Bermuda Triangle (RBT), Los Angeles-based artists Regina Mamou and Lara Salmon are interested in excavating the unknown from a research and body-based practice. Over the last year, they have created five projects in five different countries. They began their shared process at consecutive residency programs at Haven for Artists in Beirut, Lebanon, and Queens Collective in Marrakech, Morocco (September 2018–January 2019). Since then, RBT has created the following interventions: Geldwäsche at SomoS Art House in Berlin, Germany (February 2019); 7 Actions for a Concrete-Colored Sky as part of the Fluxus festival Cantos Comunes / Common Chants at The Blockhouse, a parallel program of the 13th Bienal de La Habana in Havana, Cuba (April 2019); and Dazzle Camouflage as part of Weekend at Berenice, a performance festival in Los Angeles, California (April 2019).
