It's Us, Not the Dogs - What Works for Dogs (Shelter Dogs, Dogs in Foster Care and Dogs in the Home) - Canine Behavior Seminar and Training with Sarah Thompson

Sarah Thompson is the founder, owner, and lead trainer at Innovative Dog Training & Education. After working with Sarah for several years and attempting to work with other trainers, New Mexico Pets Alive has come to know that Sarah is one of the leading canine experts in the country. We are extremely fortunate to be able to present both a:

  • Professional Track with Sarah Thompson - a hands-on training for professionals and volunteers working in animal welfare, dog training, doggie daycare or related or those who have a serious interest in working in one or more of those fields and a

  • Community Track with Sarah Thompson - a hands-on training for members of the general public and their dogs - some who are interested in basic training and some who have not been able to find solutions to the challenges they are having with their dogs.

Sarah has more than 2 decades of research, experience and professional practice and is one of the most accomplished trainers in the country. Her experience with teaching both dogs and people ranges from individual clients to municipal to non-profit to for-profit environments. In addition to meeting the high demand from private individual clients and their dogs, Sarah has assisted the staff and volunteers of over 100 animal shelters and non-profit groups. She has been instrumental in their learning to increase the health and welfare of dogs in their care while simultaneously teaching them how to reduce animal distress and associated shelter specific behavioral issues.

Sarah’s program also helps to increase staff and volunteer safety. Through their learning of proper dog handling and communication skills, attendees are able to more accurately understand and meet the needs of the dogs in their care which in turns translates into an increase in enjoyment in the home, on the job safety and shelter workplace safety. Adoption staff and volunteers will also learn how to complete better canine behavior assessments and adoption matches.

She has also served in key roles accurately assessing and delivering rehabilitative work for treatable dogs from dog fight bust situations, hoarding situations, and court cases.
Space is limited. If you intend to bring a dog with you for the Community Track you will be required to provide proof of vaacinations. This request will come to you in a seperate email.

Both the Professional Track and Community Track are cumulative by nature so we highly encourage you to register for as many days as possible. If you can only come for 1 or 2 days you will still benefit tremendously but more so the more days you attend.

The training location is in Albuquerque. 72 hours prior to your registered event days/times, you will receive location information via email.
