Hosted by Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center and the Junior League of Birmingham, this in person and virtual roundtable series tackles cancer topics that are crucial but difficult to discuss. 8/12/2022: Genetics and Cancer - Essential Information

Many cancers, like breast, ovarian, and prostate, have been connected to genetics. What do you need to know about your family history, genetic testing, and what to consider if you test positive for a genetic predisposition for cancer? Our panel of experts weigh in, followed by open discussion and questions from the audience.

• Aundriano Capers is a High Risk Counselor who works with patients who, because of family history, are at high risk for hereditary cancer at Ascension St. Vincent’s Bruno Cancer Center.
• Jennifer Kramer is a real estate agent with LAH. After watching friends and family fight cancer, she discovered she was BRCA gene positive. Through the help of her gynecologist, her "previvor" journey began.
• Julie Whatley is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in the Breast Health Clinic at The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital.
• Ruby Fenton is a Social Impact Specialist at Wells Fargo Bank. In 2008, she discovered she was BRCA gene positive and made the decision to undergo a prophylactic double mastectomy and hysterectomy.
