"Beau Barbera knows all too well the devastating effects of cancer.
Now, the Craigieburn teen is on a mission to help fight against the disease that has claimed the lives of both his grandfather and grandmother in the past five years.
And to do it, the 17-year-old is not only shaving his head, but waxing his legs to raise funds for Cancer Council Victoria’s campaign, I Will for Cancer.
Last year, Beau raised $1750 after shaving his head for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
“I didn’t want to stick with just the shave, like
“I wanted to try a couple of things.
“Not a lot of guys get their legs waxed — it’s going to be interesting.
“It’s not always the best look on a guy.”
While immersed in his Year 12 studies, Beau is committed to achieving this year’s goal of $5000, growing his hair for the shave in October — just in time for his school graduation.
“It’s something I think everyone should give a go,” he said.
“The satisfaction that you get out of it … is quite amazing.”"
Now with 2016 upon us, it is time to step up the fundraising efforts and try something on a significantly larger scale!
Essentially this is an Expression of Interest for a community movie night to raise funds for Cancer Council Victoria. I have been quoted $1000 for an outdoor cinema set-up and before I go ahead an organise this I need to know if I'll be making enough donation money to put towards cancer council. Tickets will be $10 each with food stalls and a raffle at the event as well.
