Event Details

A therapeutic respite provider can be one of the critical pieces for helping a child heal from RAD (reactive attachment disorder) or other behavioral challenges. Learn how to make this happen through discussion, small group activities, role-play, question and answer sessions, and more. This training will be packed with stories, examples, and case studies about therapeutic respite.
At the end of the one-day training, participants will learn how to create the appropriate attitude and atmosphere, structure the respite day, deal with difficult behaviors, document and communicate with families, and be knowledgeable about helpful resources.

SUSAN WARD is a professional therapeutic/motivational respite provider, parenting consultant and coach, who has been working with adoptive families for more than ten years. She is an adoptive parent herself to a child healed of RAD and formerly served as a foster parent. She has worked with Respite Retreat and Nancy Thomas during week-long "intensive" programs in Georgia for the past few years.  She has a wealth of information to share about weaving critical elements of respite care together, including chores, exercise, writing assignments, cross-body and other braing activities, bibliotherapy, social skills practice, and emotional skills practice.

If you are a parent struggling to care for a child with emotional disturbances, such as Reactive Attachment Disorder, bring someone you would trust to care for them with you and get them trained as a respite provider to help build YOUR team to heal your challenging child!!!  As a special incentive for families to help themselves and build networks in their own communities, Respite Retreat will refund $30.00 for every parent that brings a friend to be trained (total of $45.00 for both the parent's and trainee's registrations).

This training is interactive and requires participation from attendees.
