Tackling the World’s Social Challenges:

Opportunities and Trends in the Nonprofit Sector

Kim Ogden, a partner with The Bridgespan Group, a Dartmouth ’84, and a member of Dartmouth’s Rockefeller Center Board of Visitors will speak on:

The nonprofit sector today accounts for 11.4million jobs, 10.3% of all private sector employment.  Kim will discuss some of the topline trends she sees as part of her work at Bridgespan, including impact investing and the blurring of the line between nonprofit and for-profit solutions to social challenges and philanthropic “big bets” for big change.  She will also have suggestions and answer questions for those considering a career in the social sector.

A Presentation by Kim Ogden '84

Kim Ogden is a partner in the Boston office of The Bridgespan Group. Kim has over 25 years of consulting, operations, and start-up experience in both for profit and nonprofit organizations. She is passionate about poverty alleviation and providing economic opportunity for the disadvantaged.

Prior to joining Bridgespan, Kim was part of the founding team of Agape International, a nonprofit that cares for AIDS orphans in India. Kim served as COO of Agape for seven years and helped grow Agape to an organization that provides care for over 300 orphaned children in six homes, a school and a small medical facility. She helped build a committed Agape donor base and a sizable financial reserve before turning her focus to the growing arena of social entrepreneurship.

Kim also founded Ventures for Hope, a nonprofit whose mission is to address poverty through growing business ventures that employ those in need at the bottom of the pyramid. Ventures for Hope provides pro-bono consulting and marketing support to businesses started by nonprofits that serve the poor. Ventures for Hope works closely with other nonprofits to support their efforts rather than recreating the wheel. Kim has been a featured speaker on social entrepreneurship issues at a number of universities and forums.

Kim started her career at Bain & Company. As a partner at Bain, she helped lead Bain's Healthcare and Retail strategy consulting practices. She also led Boston consultant recruiting and event marketing in addition to her client responsibilities.

Kim serves on the Ventures for Hope Board, the Board of Overseers of the New England Aquarium, the Board of Visitors of the Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth College, the Goodnow Library Foundation Board, and as an Elder, Board Member and Treasurer of her church.

Kim received her BA in Economics from Dartmouth where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and her MBA from Harvard. She has been married for more than twenty five years and has three children.
