Event Details

Alert! The City of Kissimmee sent notification that the Planting Party has been CANCELLED due to weather and safety concerns for this coming Saturday, March 29. The planning team will be meeting next week to reschedule and you will notified if you have registered with the new date as soon as we have more information.

The Kissimmee Civic Center Pond is an important part of Osceola County’s and the City’s Stormwater Management System and helps prevent water pollution from entering the downstream watershed all the way to the Everglades and our coastal areas of South Florida. When we had the heavy rains last week, it served its intended function collecting run off from neighborhood yards, parking areas and streets and prevented flooding in the Kissimmee downtown area. It allowed litter and stormwater to stay in the pond while it filtered out nutrients (that make algae and water weeds grow) before flowing into Lake Tohopekaliga.litter was picked up around the pond on Wednesday 3/26 and the primary litter items were cigarette filters, which release toxic chemicals into the water and do not easily decompose. There were also small pieces of plastic trash. The goal is to continue to provide education on ways to prevent various types of pollution going into our stormwater ponds so we can keep our lakes, rivers and oceans downstream clean.

Our origional program was scheduled listed as below:
